Our plans for 2026 and beyond

We set out our plans for 2026 and beyond, following an extensive exercise in listening and reflecting with those of you engaged with our movement and beyond

Social Care Future is a movement made up of many people and organisations that share a common mission: we want a society where everyone can live in the place we call home, with the people and things we love, connected to our communities, and able to do the things that matter to us.  We believe that is as true for people who draw on support and families, as it is for people working in social care, community organisations, or policy. Social Care must enable this.  This isn’t just about more money – although funding matters. It’s about radical reimagining of how social care works, who it’s for and who has power and control.

Our collective reflection last year and the independent impact report we commissioned shows #SocialCareFuture is making a difference. But there is still much to do and powerful forces continue to maintain the status quo. We believe 2026 is our time for greater ambition and to build a “bigger us”  to grow our influence, our reach and our impact.

We’re doing this by mapping out activity in four key areas, informed by what people said we should do next. Those four areas are:

  1. Changing the story: telling human stories about real lives, choice and connection; and showing what’s possible and the consequences when support fails
  2. Broadening and elevating voices: continue to ensure people who draw on support are shaping decisions and having influence
  3. Supporting leadership and action in local places and nationally: undertaking collective problem-solving, working across roles to fix system barriers, learning together and sharing what works
  4. Challenge and accountability: using data, evidence and lived experience to spotlight progress and gaps and challenging policies and practices where needed

To build bigger us, we need your help! What work are you undertaking in those four areas? What kind of support do you need or can you offer to others? Tell us so we can shine a light on them and provide a mutual space to help build connections, support one another and amplify what’s already happening. We’ll also be sharing updates on projects in those spaces that are already underway

Write to us at socialcarefuture@gmail.com and we’ll gather together what we’re all working  on so we’ve got the best chance of coming together as a stronger alliance, and helping us all have a role to play no matter the different contribution we can bring.
